Happy Spring !?!
When I think of spring I think of daffodils and green grass. I don't think of snow boots, winter parkas and frozen fingers. But living in Vermont, that is our reality. Love it or leave it. So when Easter morning arrives, we don't pout about it, we just don our winter gear, do a quick egg hunt and run inside to thaw out and eat yummy food. The funny thing is, my kids didn't grow up with the spring memories that I did, so they don't really know any other way.
I hope you had a happy Easter day!
Our family egg hunt...

Baxter is thinking...all right already, can we go inside and eat jelly beans now?
Later in the morning, our friends came over and we had a second egg hunt...
Yeti loved the hunt!

Sugar and spice and everything nice...
and you know the rest...
Summer caught in the act of sneaking goodies...

Happy belated St. Patrick's Day!
Believe it or not, I have never once been out on the town to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Until this one. But I was working actually, so maybe it doesn’t really count. Anyway, I have a new gig each week to photograph the Burlington night life for a new publication put out by the Free Press called B-Scene. It’s a weekly arts and entertainment guide for the Burlington area. It’s quite fun, actually. I’ve been to a bunch of shows and a few concerts and a new one for me…the bar scene.
But back to Monday night…it was my job to photograph revelers at an Irish Pub called Ri Ra. It was PACKED with very gregarious drinking people. A college student excitedly told me that his favorite band was chilling out in the back, so he dragged me over. I’m kind of old, so I didn’t recognize them, but it turns out that I do know a couple of their tunes, so that made me feel better.

This is my favorite image of the night. As I was walking to Ri Ra this Irish pipe band was playing under the street lamp. It was a magical moment. Later they came into Ri Ra. very cool!
This spirited gal graced this week's B-Scene cover.
The Williston Fire Chief, 2nd from the right, was celebrating his birthday with some town firemen and his daughter. They forced me to sit down and drink a beer with them when I was finished working. They really had to twist my arm on that one! To top it off, they handed my camera off to a stranger to document the moment. ;-)
I photographed a more family-friendly event on Sunday for the Free Press called Festival Ceili...

Frost-Freelance
As a freelance photojournalist, I get a wide range of assignments: from sports to profiles to press conferences to fires. But after many years of working for the Free Press, the assignments that I still have a hard time believing I am getting paid to do are "stand-alones". I am literally paid to drive around and find pretty pictures that don't go along with a story. Hence the name.
Since people are my all time favorite subject, I particularly love the slice-of-life photographs, which typically consist of folks out in the environment doing something or anything of interest. Even when I'm not on assignment I find myself scanning the scenery for these. It's a sickness really.
So here are a few of my favorite winter drive-by images...

Newsflash....WPJA Awards!
The Wedding Photojournalist Association holds four quarterly contests a year for its members. Each quarter I enter a handful of fun images and feel fortunate to place in the top twenty. I was blown away this quarter when I learned that I had received a second place in the "Cake Cutting" category and a tenth in the "Weather" category. Considering how deep the competition runs, I'm thrilled.
I truly owe it all to my fabulous brides and grooms who trust me to capture their wedding day magic as it unfolds in front of my camera.
Congratulations to Leah and Peter for this fantastic cake eating moment!

And I adore this rainy moment from Patty and Pete's wedding...

...and I kind of forgot to mention that I captured a third place in the 3rd quarter contest...
Here's the beautiful "Getting Ready" moment from Alyssa and Jayson's wedding day...

P.S. I'm pleased to announce that I am officially tied for 26th place in the WPJA's 2007 overall rankings. Yahoo!!
